Yuma motorcycle accident results in the death of one man
Yuma, AZ – Motorcyclists are always at higher risk of fatalities and injuries due to the lack of protection on their vehicles. There is also the chance that a motorcyclist can suddenly lose control even while making basic maneuvers. When an accident happens, any other driver or company that is responsible for causing the crash can potentially be named as a defendant in a lawsuit. In such lawsuits, the defendant may end up paying for the victim’s losses such as the costs of their medical treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering. In a fatal crash, this compensation can be paid to the victim’s family through a wrongful death lawsuit.
Yuma Daily News reported on a single vehicle accident that involved a motorcyclist who did not survive his injuries [1].
Motorcyclist loses control and sustains fatal injuries
The investigation from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office showed that a 27 year old male was riding a motorcycle near Engler Ave and 16th Street. Police believe that at approximately 10:15 pm on a Wednesday night, the motorcyclist started to swerve, lost control of the vehicle, and then collided with both the median and a stop sign. The man was later confirmed to have died at the scene by emergency responders. The investigation was still open at the time of the news report, but police do not believe that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
What can cause a single vehicle accident?
Many of these kinds of crashes are caused by simple driver error. A person can become distracted for various reasons when they are operating a vehicle. If a motorcycle is involved, the person also has a much smaller margin for error, as motorcycles are difficult to control and even small mistakes can potentially cause a cyclist to lose control and have an accident. This is one of the reasons that a motorcyclist requires special training and a license endorsement.
Aside from driver error, there may be problems with the road due to improper maintenance. There can also be issues with the vehicle itself if it was improperly designed, manufactured, or repaired. These parties can be named in lawsuits and sued if an investigation reveals that they are responsible for the collision due to their negligence.
